Oral Cancer
Regular dental check-ups are essential in early detection of pre-cancerous conditions and oral cancers. Part of your regular examinations at West 10th Dental Group is to evaluate all of the soft tissue of the mouth and palate for suspicious appearing lesions.
Patients who use tobacco or drink alcoholic beverages are at greatest risk for developing oral cancer, but others are not immune! Any change in color or texture of the oral tissues which persists for more that a week to ten days is a cause for concern. Pain, swelling, or numbness are definite warning signs. Time is of the essence, as many cancers which occur in the mouth are aggressive and fast growing disease.
If you have any persistent oral lesions, you should contact your dentist at West 10th Dental Group. He will make sure that you receive appropriate diagnostic testing to determine the cause of any unusual change in tissue health or appearance.
