Oral Care For Children
Dental Care Should Start At Birth
Dental care should start at a very early stage to promote healthy gums and teeth. Even before and during the eruption of a child's teeth, it is beneficial to gently clean the teeth and gums with a soft wash rag. Not only does the oral hygiene produce benefits of reduced dental disease, but a child who is familiar with a parent's oral hygiene efforts will be more comfortable when they arrive at the dental office to begin professional care.
When should a child begin care with a dentist? Generally, your child should have their first visit between six to twelve months of age. Early childhood cavities, sometimes called nursing caries or baby bottle decay, can cause tooth decay in very young children. Also, some congenital problems can be diagnosed at a very early age. In all s, early diagnosis will minimize the need for more complex dental care later in life.
At West 10th Dental Group, our pediatric dentists have specialized training to allow them to diagnosis and treat patients from six months of age to twelve years of age and special needs patients.
Once your child has visited with our pediatric department at West 10th Dental Group, you will receive individualized instruction in home care along with age appropriate hygiene supplies.
Please start your child's dental health off on the right foot with a visit to West 10th Dental Group and our pediatric specialists!
